The story of the Titanic disaster became famous because of the hit movie Titanic that was shown in 1997, which made the whole world cry about the drama between two lovers aboard the ship.

Titanic has not been forgotten, at least today. This tragedy had been one of the biggest maritime disasters of all time.

The RMS Titanic sailed from Southhampton, England on April 10, 1912 with 2,223 people on board. At that time it was the most advanced steamship created. However, after hitting an iceberg, it sank into the waters, killing 1,517 people.

As of this time there is no living survivor of the Titanic. The last living survivor, Millvina Dean, died last 31 May 2009. She was only nine weeks old at the time the ship sank.

Sakineh Mohammadie Ashtiani was sentenced to death due to adultery. The verdict is final: she will be stoned to death. This will be done at any minute.

In stoning, Ashtiani will be buried up to her chest and stones will be hurled at her – enough for her to suffer pain before she is killed. To be given the stoning sentence, there should be at least four witnesses: four men or three men and two women. This is according to the Article 74 of the Iranian penal code. The public is not allowed to view the execution.Previously, she had received 99 lashes before she was forced to confess, according to her lawyer. She retraced the confession later on the court but she still ended up convicted on it. She had no witnesses and she was not convicted not out of evidences but out of conviction from three out of five judges.

Ashtiani is a mother of two children and came from the northern city of Tabriz. She was convicted of adultery in 2006.

Human rights activist Mina Ahadi is now trying to seek help from the international community to help save the life of Ashtiani. She believes that the most effective way to reverse the sentence is to get the attention of the international community to put the pressure to the Iranian government.

Most of the women who are convicted similar to this one are turned in by men who wanted to get out of marriage.

Many are wondering if the post office is open today. As the government had previously announced, July 5th was declared as an official holiday. All government offices are closed, and so are most business establishments.

Expect regular postal mail to come to your doorsteps the next day. Express mails, however, are an exception: these will still be delivered today.

When it’s 4th of July in the US, one of the main attractions is getting to see the local fireworks displays. Hundreds of people are expected to watch the extravagant fireworks displays that will be held in several places such as Michican, Philadelphia, Boston, Seattle Washington, D. C. and several more.

One of the issues that was raised here was that these local fireworks displays were still being held at extravagance despite having bad US economy.

Bar exam examinees are anxiously waiting for the results. The Supreme Court promised that they will release the results tonight.

The project aims to bring people to reminisce what happened on September 12, 2001 – the day when America was united without “red states, blue states or political parties”. September 12, 2001 was the day after the famous twin-tower attack.

Eventually the 9-12 project was also associated with 9 principles, 12 values.

Glenn Beck, so far, had been successful in this campaign – so much that tomorrow this project reaches its first year! Shortly after the launch there were reportedly many individuals and groups formed to support the 912 project.

NASA scientists say that the Chile earthquake was so strong that that earth had probably shifted its axis and shortened the day.

The shift of axis had been estimated to be at three inches, and the speed of earth rotation is faster by 1.26 millimeters.

The Chilean earthquake is classified as a thrust earthquake, where one of the tectonic plates forces to go underneath another tectonic plate. This inward motion is strong enough to alter the earth’s rotation. Only this type of earthquake can alter the earth’s rotation and axis. However, there can be other phenomena that can alter the length of an earth day, such as volcanic eruptions and the moon’s tidal effects.

Some people celebrate what they call Fat Tuesday, which is actually that day before Ash Wednesday. This is when people are trying to get as much food as they can for the day. It has been a tradition to celebrate this with food and feast for centuries.

The Lenten Season is a season of fasting and prayer, so people eat as much food as they can before Ash Wednesday begins.

Fat Tuesday is not worldwide celebration: it is celebrated in some countries such as US, Canada and Australia, to name a few.

A Red Line Metro train derailed Farragut North station in Washington around 10 AM. There were no serious injury reported. There were 345 passengers on board with very few people suffering only minor injuries.

People riding that train were moved to other cars and this had caused the closure of the station for a couple of hours.

Passengers heard that loud bang, but they were relieved that no one was hurt in that incident. A similar incident happened in the Metro last June, where this killed some people.

Because of the abnormally heavy snow, many WFAA schools decided to cancel classes. Jesuit College Preparatory and other major school had decided to close their schools.

Choices Leadership Academy and Christway Academy had confirmed their closure earlier and more schools are following suit.

However, there are some schools which remained open, such as the Allen Independent School District. The school management said that the roads are still reasonably safe and can see children making it to school without any difficulty.
